Kuala Kedah is a town
and parliamentary constituency in Kedah, Malaysia. It is a fishing port,
located at the mouth of the Kedah River, and serves as a terminus for
ferries to the tourist island of
Langkawi.
Kuala
Kedah, located on the coast about 12 km from Alor Setar
is a busy fishing village and a paradise for seafood. From early morning
on there are ferries leaving to
Langkawi at least every hour, the last service is at 7.30 pm and If
you are missed it and you have to stay over night inAlor Setar,
because there are no hotels in Kuala Kedah.
It is home
to a fort, Kota Kuala Kedah, built in 1770. This fort is also known as the
main gate of Kuala Kedah. It was built by Sultan Abdullah and was
completed in 1780. In 1821 it was conquered by the Siamese till 1842. Kota
Kuala Bahang or Kota Kuala Kedah was no longer a battlefield after this
time.
