Penanti is a small town
in Penang, Malaysia. It is located about
several kilometres from Butterworth.
A rather
humble town, Penanti is like many others in the area of Seberang Perai as
most modern amenities lie in nearby cities. Driving to the town is easy
via the North South Expressway, the Butterworth
– Kulim Highway and then right to Penanti
Exit. The area is so authentic; it even makes a great bird watching site.
It is mainly used for agricultural purposes, for example fruit plantation.
It is also home to the Mengkuang Dam. It is the only dam in the Seberang Perai area, seconding Penang Island’s
Ayer Itam Dam. The area provides for much of
the village’s recreation as one can do light exercise around the vicinity
and even explore the vegetation that surrounds it.
The dam
also proves itself an unlikely tourist hotspot. It also provides a venue
for water sports especially boating. So much so, it is even one of the
hosts for the annual Penang International Dragon Boat Race.
