Permatang Pauh is a
town in Seberang Perai, the hinterland portion of the island-state of
Penang, Malaysia.
"Permatang"
means "embankment" in the Malay language, while "Pauh" is an old Malay
word for "mango fruit" and thus, "Permatang Pauh" literally means "mango
territory". Senior citizens will recall that the town of Permatang Pauh
used to be a remote rural village, filled with mango trees until the
advent of rapid urbanization.
