Bukit Gelugor is a
residential neighbourhood in Penang,
Malaysia, located just north of Gelugor Village.
The name literally translates as 'Gelugor Hill' in the Malay language. The
area was one of the oldest suburban housing areas in
Penang, and has many old colonial-style
bungalows that are still occupied. It is connected to the north to the
suburb of Jelutong, and to the Green Lane area.
The summit of Gelugor Hill was reputedly a site where criminals and
political prisoners were beheaded during the Japanese Occupation of
Malaya, North Borneo and Sarawak.
The area houses the Regional Centre for Education in Science and
Mathematics (RECSAM).
